Team RSAWEB wins final race of Pro Classic Series
The Spring 2010 Pro Classic series came to a close on Sunday, with the Klein Joostenberg race in Stellenbosch. Team RSAWEB member, Robert Quinn once again took to the podium after winning the final stage of the series.
Robert Quinn describes the race for us:
This race was particularly savage right from the beginning. Team RSAWEB tried desperately hard to put the Pink Jersey under pressure and claim back the series lead, with Team Cape Town Market also in pursuit. Alas, the weather was too liberal to assist any isolation, and the bunch remained intact. With 30km till the finish, Team RSAWEB decided to rather keep things together and aim for the stage win, which we achieved.
I also succeeded in winning the overall race in a bunch sprint to the finish by closing a 50m gap on 2 riders in the last 200m. In the end, a bike length was what separated the first 4 riders over the line.
Reflecting on the win, I’m reminded of Einstein’s comment that it takes 8 times the energy to create something in relation to how much energy it would take to destroy it.
Although we didn’t clinch the series win in the, we are immensely proud of our fledgling team’s performance throughout the series, claiming 4 out the 5 Pro Classic Series podiums and 2 wins. Throughout the series we also held lengthly led in the team and individual competition, and held the leader’s jersey for 4 stages. In the individual competition, Joshua le Roux finished 2nd overall with Rob Quinn in 6th.
Overall, it was a successful series for Team RSAWEB, and we are looking forward to seeing to team growth from strength to strength.
