As the days start to get shorter and the evening brings with it a light chill in the air, we all know that summer is drawing to an end. So, join us this Sunday (19 March 2017) at De Waal Park for one last free concert, brought to you by Concerts in the Park and RSAWEB.

Freshlyground
One of the most acclaimed and successful bands to emerge from South Africa in recent years, Freshlyground are a collective of musicians who blend the infectious kwela style and musical traditions from Zimbabwe and Mozambique with elements of pop, jazz, blues and indie rock. Giving them a unique sound that their fans just can’t get enough of.
Freshlyground released their second studio album Nomvula in July 2004. Radio quickly picked up on the single ‘Doo Be Doo’ and the catchy song went on to become a crossover favourite amongst a diverse spread of stations and their listeners. ‘Doo Be Doo’ was the most played song in South Africa in 2005.
Freshlyground has toured the world and recorded six increasingly popular albums, culminating in a collaboration with pop superstar Shakira that was chosen as the official song of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
The Rudimentals
Celebrated African-ska band The Rudimentals, is a socially diverse, fun-filled act that strives to interact with people of all ages and tastes. The band is made up of eight highly accomplished, talented and entertaining musicians, representing a blend of youth and experience.
Their unique brand of music defies compartmentalisation, comprising of dance-hall raps, reggae rhythms, Hip-Hop and a skanking back beat of vintage 70’s Ska.
In July 2015 they released the single ‘We Are One,’ which reached the top 5 in the 5FM radio charts. The single was aimed at bringing together all communities with peace, love and unity.
The Rudimentals continue to perform at all top South African events and festivals and have gathered a huge following and reputation for great live performances.
Skyscrapers
This amazing Cape Town trio met at school and formed the band in 2015. They are South Africa’s youngest indie-pop band.
The band is made up of singer/songwriter Mila Smith (12), Leo Letschert (11) on keyboard and Dan Buchalter (11) on drums.
In September 2016 they released their first album on Bandcamp. The seven-song album includes original songs such as Confusion and Megaphone, as well as their version of Summertime, originally made famous by Ella Fitzgerald and Janis Joplin.
