What is ScaleConf?
Now in its fourth year, ScaleConf is a three day annual conference centred on the Internet and the need to build websites to sustain the rigors of today’s traffic and usage. With WiFi sponsored by RSAWEB, this year’s ScaleConf took place at Kirstenbosch Gardens from 4th – 6th March and included a host of local and international speakers such as Franz Struwig from Garmin, Willem Van Biljon from Takealot and Charity Majors from Parse / Facebook, to name but a few.
That magic space called ‘the Cloud’
The ‘Cloud’ is such a massive word/concept that, until recently, in my mind, it could only exist in an unreachable place, far up in the heavens, and more and more I have found myself wondering, “what exactly is the Cloud?” and what does it really mean for businesses?
The Inner City Ideas Cartel is situated in the centre of the Cape Town CBD at 71 De Waterkant Street above the bustling Hemelhuijs restaurant. The building exudes an energy that makes you feel as though there are boundless possibilities afoot and stepping off the street and into the high volume, glass, concrete and steel interior, I feel an almost tangible tense sense of excitement.

Parents often worry about how much time their children spend online, either browsing the Internet or playing online games. The concern is that they should be playing outside, playing sports, reading, giving more attention to their homework or socialising with other children. In the rapidly changing pace of new technology parents also have a hard time negotiating the influx of new tech that is available for children and feel that their kids should have the same experiences that they had when growing up, when the available technology was far more limited.
